Field Work 1
What happened?
Today, Camille took me out to her block.
She explained the experiment. Discussing the control, the equipment, consistency, accuracy, replicate-ability.
We cut the grass in the capture units, bagged and labeled, then put in oven to dry out for two days. Will be weighed to measure biomass.
What I learnt/noticed?
-not a 9-5 job, Camille works as long as needs to, to complete the experiments
-she thinks about it all the time, there is a time frame due to funding
-well thought out, nothing spontaneous
-lots about mechanics of soil science
-scientists need lots of skills - field, lab, computers, maths, stats, communication
Implications for classroom?
-learning is hard
-being new is emotionally challenging
-feel vulnerable asking questions or for help
-there is SO MUCH I don't know, but the more I learn the more I learn, it builds upon each bit
-variety makes things interesting - love being outside - love mahi being related to the earth - real stuff
-loved feeling useful/involved
