What am I doing?
So what is the Science Teaching Leadership Programme and how will it impact the students at Ladbrooks School? At the Board meeting last night, it was suggested that I put out a post that explains to parents, the bigger picture of STLP - so here is my hail article.
The Science Teaching Leadership Programme supports the Government’s strategic direction for Science in Society by providing opportunities for teachers to:
- improve knowledge, skills and confidence in teaching authentic science
- improve the leadership capabilities to increase the likelihood of sustained, effective school-based science teaching
- enhance schools science programmes to better engage students and the wider schools’ community in science and to develop students’ science knowledge and skills
- develop, maintain and leverage linkages with others in national science communities.
Upon returning to school, Ali will review the current 'state of play' and work with our Kahui Ako lever to "increase student achievement in authentic science" by:
-building teacher capacity to deliver stimulating and meaningful programmes that engage, inspire and spark curiosity
-develop ways for the Nature of Science to become embedded within the daily practice
-develop processes by which the Science Capabilities can be built upon, transparent to tamariki, and shared with whanau
-deepen understanding of Matauranga Maori within science teaching and learning
This ako will be a focus for staff in 2021 as per our strategic goals.
Ali has just spent a week at Tirorangi Marae looking out at Mount Ruapehu. What a magical learning experience.
